| I have read this countless times since the 4th grade, and it still continues to be one of my favorite books ever. The odd thing is that I remember being severely disappointed to learn this was not a fantasy.

| My daughters and I really enjoyed listening to this classic literature in long car rides. The story combined with the enchanting music made it all the more endearing. |

| I somehow tragically managed to make my way to adulthood with never reading anything but the kiddie version of this book. When I found this book for super-cheap in the teachers' lounge book sale and I figured "hey, why not?" And thus I picked it up and immediately fell in love with the sheer Old-South charm that only Twain can deliver. Really, people, it is no wonder that this book is such a classic! | I was looking for an anthology for students who read between the 4th and 7th grade level, something other than the typical core by the big publishers. The stories are well written, captivating, and present an array of genre. Best of all, my students love the book. |

| My 11-year old recommended this book. She had read it at school. So we read it together. We loved it! The story is fascinating and the characters are wonderful. It's the story of an 11 or 12 year-old girl who has become hardened and deceitful because of her experiences as a foster child that is moved around to different families. She's white and has grown up racist ... but this changes ... not in a sudden epiphany (how rare those are!) ... her feelings and behavior change slowly ... organically. I highly recommend this book. |

| Every time I read this I am amazed at its honesty and harshness. The main character is a girl to be pitied, even as she is strong. I've heard people complain that so many characters are villainized, but that is because Louise is viewing (with surprising fairness) them through her own eyes as she learns to rely upon herself for her own happiness. Along the way, things are revealed to her, against her will, that not everyone is sorted into the concrete concepts of good and evil.

| My nephew aged 5 immensely enjoyed this book. It was a really cute story with a surprise ending. He read it very easily, but he has a fourth grade reading level. The kidnergartener in him liked the story though although the reading level was not a challenge. Good Book, Good read, recommended. |

| I liked it....It was a pretty good book it pulled me right into the story. I felt like i was there it felt real to me it was a great book!!.But if you like action books and things like that then this isn't your book.It's kind of a girly book it's not really a boys kind of book.It's a sad story in a way because her and her brothers dad dies.But any-ways it is a good book to me other people might think something different it is a good read I dont recommend it to boys or guyes because its kind off a girls book but if you like these kind of books then ...
