City of Ember of People of Sparks, the first 2 books in this series were excellent. Prophet of Yonwood was a waste of time and had no business being in the middle of the series. The appears to be the final book in the Books of Ember.

Here we revist the City of Ember now empty of life. A book is found with pages missing that hints of something amazing for the people of Ember. Doon and Lina embark on an adventure to thier old city to discover just what this book is talking about. ... Read More:

It is a game of power, played on several levels at once. On one level, serious chess played with fabulous bejeweled pieces; on another, chess played by and with real people, black and white kings and queens. Unimaginable power is the prize.

Like the game, Katherine Neville's latest novel, "The Fire," reads on several levels at once. On one level, the reader finds a basic, scifi story, interwoven with chess moves. On another, historical and modern periods are storytelling devices, each ... Read More:

I ordered four copies, one came with alot of print written in it and highlighting. Was supposed to be in excellent state and I couldn't track who sent it.

Wonderful story, but the poor state of the book detracted from me giving it as a gift...I rate the story as a 5+ but the book you sent a 1. So give it a 3 overall.

The Eight started out promisingly enough, but degenerated to the point of ridiculousness. The book has been compared to Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, but in actuality The Eight comes nowhere near that fabulous book. As I read, I hoped that Katherine Neville was writing a parody, but I guess not.

Where to begin? Overly contrived plot with more holes than Swiss cheese; really, really bad writing style with an over-use of adjectives and past participles; laughable sex scenes; too much historical inaccuracy; too much historical ... Read More:

5.The Partly Cloudy Patriot by: Sarah Vowell

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Partly Cloudy Patriot
That's the book I'm describing in my review title above, though it could apply to Sarah Vowell herself. This collection of essays is the best kind of historical musing; Sarah ties in the past with the present, and weaves her own biographical comedy around it all.

Not only is this book relatively brief, but the essays are as well, so if you're looking for a quick chuckle and an "I didn't know that!" before bedtime, keep The Partly Cloudy Patriot on your nightstand.

Also recommended: Assassination Vacation.

I believe I ordered a new book and not a "Used but looks like new". I received a used book and don't htink I will ever go with this particular seller again and would recommend you to do the same. The name of the seller is Kerbearstats.

The Cape Light novels have been a blessing to read, with the exception of A Christmas Star. I own nine of the Thomas Kincade / Katherine Spencer Cape Light novels; including A Christmas Star.

To me, this novel was not written in the normal exellence of these authors. I was and am VERY disappointed in the book except for the story line about Jack Sawyer.

If you want to read about Jack check the book out of the library.

While attempting to read this book, I could not stop my gag reflex from releasing vomit into my throat. I have never in my life tried to read such a dreadful, plotless piece of tripe before. I slightly enjoyed Can You Keep a Secret? and was looking for another light read. This was so light it floated away on a sea of disgust. The book is 99% dialogue, i.e. there is no plot. The main character is heinously insipid. I refused to donate this book to be sold as used to prevent someone else from having to waste their time with this horrid book.

a vindication and a celebration of the persecuted (metaphorically executed?) Russian intelligentsia clad in the revered garb of the Holy Fool; a hymn to the strength of the weak," writes Simon Franklin in the Michael Glenny translation Introduction. Hugh Aplin, in a newer translation, contends that, (p 433) "The novel demands several readings, such are the depths of interconnected details and implications." Following his advice, I've now read the book three times in as many months (Aplin's, then Glenny's, then Aplin's again). Each time I learned something new.

As the story ... Read More:
