| This is a lovely book. From the rough cut page edges to the wonderful drawings to the author speaking directly to the reader and finally to the story itself! I loved it so much that it has become one of my very favorites. What's better (maybe, one never knows) is that it is coming out in film soon. Buy it for anyone who can dream, wants to dream or is a child literally or figuratively. |

| Name your dog Albertsons because you found him there?
A lonely little girl finds a stray dog who can smile. This preacher's daughter has been to India ( was named after it), but lost her mother very early. Sadness and loneliness give way to new friends and good times as Winn-Dixie wins friends her in the Florida summer. The book is well written and a heart string plucker. Most children and grandparents should enjoy the stories here. |

| I just put this book down. It was absolutely beautiful.
I warn you, though, this story is probably not for the sensitive (as demonstrated by the negative responses). Still, I think this is an important story for the overindulged, entitled generations that we are raising. It is about love, and appreciation, and loss, and need. The characters are very real and have qualities in people that we all know. I loved this book. It was so moving and I would highly recommend it. |

| This series is a great set of chapter books for kids who have gotten beyond "early reader" chapter books that also enjoy humor in what they read. The central characters, who make repeat performances in each book, add to the delight of the story because of their offbeat personalities. I am not sure how the author decided to feature a pig that eats toast, but it is pure genius that will delight both the young reader and parents as well. I think I looked forward to the new "Mercy" installments as much as my son did. |

| This little book shocked me. Its grace, beauty, simplicity and power. The writing sparkles with honesty and feeling. One of the main achievements, for me, is how effectively the author captures the voice of the narrator. How DiCamillo pulled this off so well, I have no idea. But anyone would swear that an eight-year girl really wrote this book. Of course the story is all there too, it's not just good writing with no where to go.
