| With over 1,000 reviews on Amazon it is quite unlikely you will read anything different in my review than all the other five star reviews. I must say that Jared Diamond has written an extraordinary book. The question he tackles with GGS is, "Why and how did wealth and power develop in some areas and not in others."

| The connection of the the evoutionary and phsychological charachteristics of human beings is worth the read. The evidance is lacking but more then made up for by circumstantial logic. There are few books that shed light on human charachteristics and such finds should not be skipped. |

| Sex is urgent, demanding, sometimes pleasurable, but fun? No, I would not call sex fun. By calling sex fun I think Professor Diamond skips over the very essence of sex which is we have no choice. That's the way it has come down to us. As one of my students crudely put it, "eat cheese or die."
Diamond knows this of course as do all of us. What he is about in this his second book, coming after The Third Chimpanzee (1992) and before the phenomenally successful and highly recommended Guns, Germs, and ... Read More: |

| I pre-ordered this book and received it today under the understanding that Jared Diamond wrote it. Turns out he wrote the (very brief) two-page "introduction", and that appears to be it. I have not had a chance to read much of the book itself yet, but the parts I've scanned look to be okay, but nothing special. Don't buy this book expecting it be another "Third Chimpanzee" or "Why Sex is Fun". Writing the foreward is not the same as being a coauthor. |

Also he convincingly puts the case of conservation of environment. In fact, if you have any doubt about the urgency of conserving environment, read this book. You might see so many things in a new light. You might even be motivated to donate funds for the conservation societies like WWF.
