Books : Northanger Abbey (Everyman's Library classics)
I watched the recent BBC version of the Northanger Abbey story first and loved it. I'm a Jane Austen fan who hasn't read all the novels but I'm working on it. So I got the novel to see how it compared. It was great! I love her humor - tongue in cheek and so witty. But the thing I really want to comment favorably about is the Penguin Classics edition. I get so much background and insight and explanatory information from these editions. I've read 3 of them now and they are marvelous. I've read ... Read More:

Mansfield Park is the story of Fanny Price, who at ten years old is taken away from her indigent family to live with her rich cousins, the Bertrams of Mansfield Park. Both Fanny's uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram, and her Aunt Norris, his sister-in-law, want the distinction of rank preserved between Fanny and her richer cousins. Consequently, Fanny suffers under the tyranny of her Aunt Norris and the neglect of most everyone else at Mansfield Park. The only real exception is her cousin Edmund, who, as Fanny ... Read More:

This book went way beyond my expectations. It is packed with evidence-based care for children with autism spectrum disorders, care that in some cases can lead to full recovery. It is shocking how much we actually do know about autism and it's causes and treatments, despite what we hear in the media. There is a lot of excellent research, published in top peer-reviewed medical journals, that is simply ignored by mainstream medicine. Many doctors are simply unaware that this research exists at all. Some doctors, ... Read More:

Sense and Sensibility is a work of wit intelligence and genius--the critical apparatus and here I mean the work of modern critics is the work of those "favored" by stupidity. With the exception of Raymond Williams important article from "Keywords" --the critics are informed by a feminism that might be called Sexual Stalinism. Critics with agendas are always reductive, unreflective and in the case of one essay unpardonably vulgar. I name no names. William Empson's exploration of "Sense" "Sensibility" "Candour" and "Candid" ... Read More:

Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey is the novel that almost wasn't. We know from Cassandra Austen's notes that her sister Jane wrote it during 1798-1799, prepared it for publication in 1803, and sold it to publishers Crosby & Company of London only to never see it in print. It languished on the publisher's shelf for six years until Austen, as perplexed as any authoress who was paid for a manuscript, saw it not published, and then made an ironical inquiry, supposing that by some "extraordinary circumstance" that it had been ... Books : How to Do Everything with Your Palm Handheld
I've had my Palm TX for almost a year and knew I wasn't using it anywhere close to it potential. This book is a wonderful source of information that is delivered with a good sense of humor, making it an easy read. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about their Palm device and how to get better use out of your investment.

My review title refers to the notion that given any set of variables, circumstances, factors, every situation has a limit on how 'good' it can get. Change a variable, it might get better. Change another, maybe a tad more 'better'. But there's a (mostly unseen) limit on the outcome. (No, this isn't an obvious truth. If it were, most relationships would never fail because they'd never be invested in from the beginning. This ideology is connected to a 'Zen' way of living, a mindful life.)

This novel achieved its 'ceiling'. ... Read More:

I've always been a little hesitant to read any Austen novels, because I didn't think I was going to get anything out of them, and they would be hard to understand due to the different jargon involved. This book solves that problem. They give Austen's back story, have a timeline of important events that were going on at different parts in her life, so you can get a sense of what kind of world she was living in. Another great point is the glossary of terms in the back of the book. They even describe real places that are mentioned in the storyline, ... Read More:
