Cute retelling, wonderful illustrations (the godcow was a nice touch), and I'm glad of the emphasis on how the two main characters fell in love because of their common interest in ranching. It is a bit wordy, though. |

| My 2-year-old and I LOVE this book. The story is a real treat (and often makes us hungry for chili and jalapeno biscuits) and the illustrations are superb. I especially recommend reading this out loud with your best (or worst) Texan accent. |

| Believe it or not, I use this book as a read-aloud for my 8th grade (13 year olds!) science class. I read it to them before beginning a unit on weather. Even this age finds it humorous. Add this to your collection! |

| Absolutely adorable adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk, this is too cute for words. We read it with my very best Texas accent and the kids can't git--ahem, get--enough. One thing that bothers me is that the golden egg from the Jack story is replaced with golden "cowpats" in this one. I didn't catch what that was at first, and my kids haven't caught it even after reading it many many times, but it's too adorable not to read just because of that. | This is certainly a unique book, or, probably a better word would be "odd." When I first read it, something I ALWAYS do before presenting a new book to the kids, I must admit to having been a bit stunned and put off. The critters in this story are mean, just simply mean, and not all that loveable. | An exceptional story for 3-8 year-olds. Upon reading it, children will say "Ahh." Adults will say "Wow." Seldom is a writer able to transport the reader so effectively into the story as Helen Ketteman has done. Similar to Allen Say's "Grandfater's Journey", in that the story flows like a magnificent poem, and is embedded with such deep meaning. | My 4 year old son and I checked this book out at the library and it quickly became a favorite bedtime story. The story is hysterical and gets wilder with every page. Brain Floca's illustrations really make the book. My son loved the picture of the cows rolling down the hill. This book is well worth adding to your child's library. |

| This is the funniest and most original Christmas book I've seen in a long time. We discovered it last December and we'll be reading it again many times this December. The boys (3 and 5) laugh so hard and so do I. This one will end up a holiday tradition. |

| The Great Cake Bake is Matt Collins first picture book; yet, his work surpasses many veteran artists. His illustrations are vivid and polished, shiny is probably a better word. The expressions are animated, and comical. The illustrations are funny, and beg a second look. I also love the animal antics. On nearly every spread Donna Rae's cat and bunny rabbit appear in the scenes. Her pets are either peeking from behind a post, or struggling to get a better view. It's cute, and adds to the fun.
