| This was the first book of Nature Writing I had ever read as a freshman in college. It is now one of my favorites. I love Dillard's intricacies, scientific observations, detail and metaphysical tangents that weave their way about the book like so many spiderwebs. I've read most of her other nonfiction which keeps in the same tone and wonder. |

| The Awakening is a novella about a young married woman in New Orleans during the late 1800s who suddenly develops a taste for freedom - to make her own decisions and live with the consequences. An exciting concept only because of the setting. The storyline is really very mild for today's readers.

| This novel is severely underappreciated because of its standing as a "kid's book." I first read Johnny Tremain more than a decade ago in elementary school, and I've read it at least once a year, every year, since.
If there is one complaint that I do not understand when reading negative reviews, it is the claim that these characters are 'flat'. They are anything but. | Edith Wharton is still one of America's most well-known female novelists and writers. She creates Undine Spragg who aspires to adapt and adjust into New York City high society which is a recurring theme in Wharton's books like Age of Innocence or House of Mirth. Unlike House of Mirth, Undine is more comical, flawed and a challenge to any actress. This book should be made into a film if it hasn't already. I don't know why we have so much junk out there. | If you're already an 'Anne of Green Gables' fan, you'll love these short stories. Each one is unique and is about different residents of Avonlea and its' surrounds. Laugh out loud with some - they're every bit as entertaining as the 'Anne' books themselves.
Don't expect to find too much of 'Anne' herself in these stories though. She often gets a mention, but no more than that. These stories are about other residents in Avonlea and are great for giving extra depth and fullness to the novels about Anne. 12 tales in total - I loved ... Read More: |

| This novel is one of the best of the "Anne" series. The plot moves, the characters are well portrayed, and romance keeps the suspense up and the reader engrossed. It is so wonderful to read something written about the turn of the century that isn't full of the filth of so much of today's fiction. |

| This is the best of the Vicky Bliss series. The romance between Vicky and John is so perfect...plus, this book really explores their relationship (as well as Egyptology and stolen antiquities). |

| I first read this book when it was published. I have lost count of the number of times I have read it since then. This was among the first books to go to my Kindle. I love all of Elizabeth Peters' books, but for sheer lunacy, this one remains my favorite. |

| I really don't know how I managed to skip this book, but somehow I didn't get my hands on this until a few weeks ago when I saw it at a used bookstore. Of course, being an avid Peters fan, I immediately picked it up and devoured it in just one sitting. This is a delightful tale of an anthropology student who takes a summer job with an eccentric millionaire and, in the process, unravels the mystery of his disappearance.
