Usually when you think about a samurai; you think of a great warrior, but not in this case. The Samurai's Tale by Erik Christian Hauguard is a story about a boy named Taro. At a young age Taro's family was killed. Lord Akiyama took Taro in and treated him like a son, although taro worked for him. | In the book, The Boy And The Samurai, there are 6 surprising events. One of them is that almost instantly; he becomes an orphan twice when both his real parents and foster parents died. Another is when he survives one of the harshest winters with barely any warmth or food while raising a cat. He also stops a gang of children from robbing an inn. These are some reasons why the events in The Boy And The Samurai is interesting and surprising. |

| This book was mainly about how a kingdom in Japan which had a lord. However this lord was in a great battle. He lost the war and with losing as a warlord it is a disgrace and they would have to commit the act of seppuku where "they have to their head cut off". With this army losing their lord to another army they are on a long and patient quest to get revenge for their lord. | Having recently returned to teaching 8th graders after practicing law for many years, I'm trying to catch up on what is available. I'm sure my reluctant readers would not not care for this book - but I certainly did, and I'll recommend it to my more adventurous readers. The historical background is essentially accurate, and deals with a time period and event little known or studied in today's classrooms. The action is fast-paced; the quality of expression superb. | I would say the book wasn't a good book over all and I would not like to recommend it to other people. I didn't have a real good plot like some of the books I read. It jumped from one thing to another. For instance when Erik was talking to the German Nazi group how did it all of a sudden go to him talking to Nikolai about the firecrackers that he planted next to the Nazi group.
