| I've read that male writers tend to be more plot based and female writers more character based. Every time I read a book I've been noticing that this statement is true. Women writers portray more emotion in their characters and this is what makes them so interesting. Most of the Artemis Fowl books are plot based and this one is too, but there are more glimpses of internal conflict from Artemis in this book than the others. | Eoin Colfer needs to stop. No, really. This book disappointed me to no end. I simply adored the first book. I mean, how cool is it to be rooting for the bad guy for a change? But then, Colfer began making Artemis a completely different character. He made Artemis come over to the good side. NO WAY! Bring back the criminal Artemis of old! This book was just plain weird. If I were you, I would read to book four or so, then stop. It all goes down hill from there |

| I preferred this to the first. Once again Colfer brings out his marvelous reimagination of Irish mythology to combine it with the technology of a not-too-distant future. It's an hysterical combination, and I have to say that this book brings in more heart than the first, as well as more passion for its loveable characters. |

| To put is simply, Colfer has a gift for taking excellent research of Irish mythology and giving it a modern and technical twist. That makes for plenty of wry, clever humor for this smartly paced book.
It's a great concept: child criminal mastermind, big tough bodyguard. The little people with their gold. It pokes fun of itself and all of its crazy characters as well as the entirity of Irish mythology. I appreciate the lengths Colfer has gone to, and the action is hilarious and well-done. ...
