| The Saturdays by Elizabeth Enright was first published in 1941, and though it was written many years ago, is as delightful now as it was then. It's a story about a family who loves each other, works hard and strives to do the right thing. How refreshing!

| One of my absolute favorites from childhood. It was also probably the beginning of my love for all things Victorian, as odd a starting point as it may be. I fell in love with the idea of finding a little town that (although only inhabited by two people) still functions like it did nearly a century ago. I think I even decided that I would name my future children Minnehaha and Pindar, although now I see that may not be such a good idea. |

| I had this book recommened to me, and while I was familiiar with the author I had never before heard of the Melendy family. This is, I believe, the second book of a quartet, and what a charming one this is! In old-school fashion this brings a sweet-natured family's various adventues to light after they move from the city to a strange house out in the country. | The Melendy family has moved from New York City. It's summertime and their father is in Washington on important business. The loveable housekeeper Cuffy must leave to care for her cousin who has suffered a fall. Since Willy (also employed by the Melendy family) is in residence, Cuffy decides to leave the children on their own.

| This is a rambling, pointless book about a young lady living in the first half of the 20th century in the rural USA.
The "heroine" is a terrible example - she flies from one dangerous misbehavior to the next without EVER a single consequence from her stupid decisions [including running away and hitch hiking to another city, where she has a grand time and nothing bad happens at all....]. | I loved this as a child and my son loves it just as much now that I have introduced it to him. A true classic for kids. |

| This is the last of the melendy books I read; it it was ok. The mystery is great and puzzling but the disappointing thing is THERE's ONLY OLIVER AND RANDY IN IT!!! How can you have a melendy book less than half the melendys?! Also the prize at the end is sweet but disappointing, but overall... ok. |
