| This is a typical Francis story with excitement and some violence. Geoffrey Mason , a barrister and an amatuer jockey, takes on the defense of a professional jockey accused of murder. He is instructed by an unknown adversay to take the xase and lose and the threats are lethal and frightening. Mason is called Perry by his jockey friends and the court actions are bery much like the Perry Mason of old. It's edge of the chair anticipation and thrills. |

| I am surprised by the reviews here which claim this doesn't read like a Dick Francis novel. I haven't read all his later books, but I found the style still ehre, maybe aged and matured, but unmistakeable.The title, as usual, has about three possible applications. The race track application of course is his trademark, and the restaurant application is equally obvious. The third application comes in the later part of the story. | Dick Francis is a huge hit in my house. "In The Frame" was the first of his books that my wife ever read. She loved it so much she started looking for more of his books. Now, several years later, our office houses every book in the Dick Francis catalog.

| This is a solid Dick Francis novel with interesting characters (esp. the supporting cast), a bigger than life hero, a mystery, and lots of IMHO fascinating information on a lesser-known aspect of the racing sport--the bloodstock agent (perhaps called horse trader or agent outside of the British Commonwealth). It also has a modicum of love interest, the long-suffering of the hero, his triumph at the end, but with some pathos too.
