| I have yet to finish the book, but I have a general idea of how Paolini's writing stands. Take this review with a grain of salt.
The good: Differentiation of cultures is distinct and believable. The political tensions between the cultures is excellent. Nasuada, Roran, Elva, and Saphira are well planned, interesting characters. | I very much enjoyed reading The Shack. The story of Missy's abduction is disturbing. Even more disturbing, however, is the process of surrender that Mack works through as he connects with spirit. I am a christian cultured individual with no real religous upbringing/education. I do not know the trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) the way others brought up in christian religion might. | I finally caved in to the hype and bought this book...kinda wished I had placed myself on the month long waiting list at my local library instead.
Perhaps "Twilight" being the first book in the saga's the reason for the slowness. There wasn't really any content/plot. Though the writer took over 300 pages to describe Edward and Bella's "courtship," it still left me with the impression that two infatuated teens blurted out their love for each other w/o thought. | I really loved the first book and had high hopes. But as other reviewers have mentioned, Bella's character just does not progress the way it seems she should. She is still a very immature, selfish, snotty little brat. It would make more sense if Edward didn't put up with it and told her to shape up or ship out. But he doesn't. And then there is the whole RIDICULOUS deal with Jacob.
