I was forced to upgrade due to Intuit's "Sunset Policy" (after 3 yeasrs Some Features stop working unless you upgrade, it's in the microscopic print on the back of the box). Basically it's almost identical to Quicken 2005 with a different look. I'll be trying MS Money next time! Sorry Intuit!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - FORCED Upgrade? I don't think so!
I've been using Quicken since 1988. It's the first software I remember using! But this is my last year.

I really resent being FORCED to purchase an upgrade to this product for no other reason than they need us to spend more money with them. Quicken says its software will quit connecting with banks in April. Why is that? Are ALL banks going to some new computer system that the earlier versions of Quicken are simply incompatible with? I don't think so. No, it's obvious that there are no more features they can add that would make people want to buy a new version and people are happy to keep their current versions until they're FORCED to purchase a new one.

Well, I'm not going to put up with that. I'm going to switch to MS Money. As much as I hate to do that. But at least this way Quicken won't make quite the killing they thought they were going to make.

Plus, not to mention all the annoying bugs in Quicken. I'm reading here that none of them were fixed and new ones have appeared! So really why would anyone purchase an upgrade from them? The FIND feature (Ctrl-F) in the register is horrible! It always defaults to whatever field you DON'T want to search on and you have to take your valuable clicking time to click on the drop-down box and choose the field. Why doesn't it just default to ALL fields. Or at least give you the option to choose that as the default. And the most annoying thing about the FIND feature is that when you're done you can't just hit the escape key to exit out of it. You have to again, take your mouse, drag it back over to the find box and click Close.

Bye bye Quicken. You've been a long-time friend, but you now force me to seek new friends elsewhere!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Quicken Sucks
I've used Quicken for years. It's done the job for the most part, but it's always had many things about it that annoy me. Chief among them, it has NO UNDO. I can't believe that in 2008 ANY computer program would be sold without some sort of undo feature. They keep sending me discounts every year to upgrade to the new version and I keep doing it, hoping that it will get better...dare I dream...and undo feature???

However, something happened this evening that finally turned my minor annoyance to anger.

I was going through all of my transactions for the year and assigning categories, so I could generate a report of our spending habits, which I do every year. I like to order my transactions by "Payee" (a feature that didn't show up until 2005, btw) so I can select multiple entries for the same Payee and assign categories to all of them at the same time. I noticed that a lot of the Payee names from my bank started with a # symbol. This screwed up the sorting order. So, I found the "Find & Replace" item on the File menu and thought I'd use it to remove all instances of #. In the Find & Replace window, I searched for # in the Payee field and got a list of results. I checked them all and selected to replace the # in the Payee field with a space (I had to use a space because it wouldn't let me enter nothing, which is what I wanted). I clicked Done.

So what a happened? This god forsaken program replaced the entire Payee field for each of those matching transactions with as space. I now have hundreds of transactions cleared out with no way to identify them. And yes, you guessed it. NO UNDO. I'm screwed. I have to go to my last back up and start over. Over 2 hours of work gone. All I wanted to do was replace a # with nothing. Something I can do right now in Word (or just about any other program).

I've seen postings on the web that the solution is to back up more often. How often? Every time I change a transaction? THAT IS WHY SOFTWARE HAS UNDO!!! IT SHOULD DO IT FOR YOU!!!

Words (even in all caps) can't express how angry I am at Intuit. This is my last year using Quicken.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Review of Quicken 2008
I've been an enthusiastic Quicken user since the DOS days. It helps me gather the information for my income tax return, and balancing my checkbook is actually fun.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Useful but upgrade is disappointing
I started using Quicken in 1996, and this is the third version for me. Please note that I only use the checkbook, so all my comments are confined to that feature.
The best thing about Quicken Deluxe is that there is no learning curve and little need to change anything. I bought Quicken Deluxe just as I was about to balance my check book. So when I changed from Basic 2005 to Quicken Deluxe, everything went just as before. The only immediately apparent difference was the Tag tab which was added to Category and Memo, and it was easy to get rid of Tag so that the interface was identical to what I had before. All my memorizations and categories remained the same.
The flip side of this advantage is that there was very little improvement while all previous annoyances, and some new ones, were present.
A truly disconcerting new feature(at least new to me) is that within a report, when you open a folder and its items are listed, a horrible dark blue bar goes across the very line that you put the cursor on and the text becomes illegible. The very text you identify is the one you can't read. Of course you soon learn to keep the bar just below the item you want to examine, but that is not ergonomic. After all, all other programs try to make the selected item easier to read rather than blocking it out.
In my first version of Quicken, the program gave me almost full control of color, and provide a rich palette of colors to choose from. Quicken Basic 2005 removed the choices and made the colors less attractive. Quicken Deluxe has continued this regression by almost washing out the colors to the point that text is much less legible.
An old annoyance is that the check dater loves to revert to to-day's date at the least excuse. Any number of times I have had to go back and insert the correct dates because the dating tab had insisted on putting in to-day's date. Why not give us the option of having the date never change until we change it? Is that too much to ask? There were some other problems that I don't recall at the moment.
In conclusion, you will probably need to upgrade to Quicken Deluxe to use it Windows Vista. If you stay with Windows XP, you don't need to upgrade.
