I like to old design better, too. The one with the usage indicator. You can still find these on eBay! Not sure what I'll do when I can't find these anymore. Who wants to use write down how many gallons have been filtered? These things are too expensive not to have an easier way of determining the life of the filter.

If you are a person with a compromised immune system this filter is a must for keeping your water safe to drink plus tasting good. Here in Arizona the water needs to be filtered.

PUR did a good thing in getting rid of the replacement indicator.
It is now easy to replace the filter every 2 months. Simplicity is the key!

I bought three boxes of these filters and have used them over the last 6 months. Every single filter had a mysterious greasiness on the outside of it which was very hard to remove (I use a dry paper towel to rub off as much of the grease as I can). As another reviewer mentioned "the filters leak their guts" -- some of the filters had white granules on the outside - soft like plastic or rubber which one can rinse off before installing the filters in the pitcher -- but what the heck are the granules?
The older filters with the automatic guage on top never had these problems. I'm waiting to hear from PUR what is going on. Although I've been using these "new" filters for months now, I've grown very wary of PUR's quality control and am ready to seek alternative products for filtering my water.

Product works well, but I do prefer the gage/meter that used to be on the older version of this filter. Other than that, they seem to work just fine. Bring back the meter!
