Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good as the others
A very good sound! Better than X and Y to be honest...I really like it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Surprisingly good
I can honestly say that I am not a huge Coldplay fan. I like some of their songs from their first two cds, found their last studio album dreadfully boring. I wasn't planning on checking out their latest effort VIVA LA VIDA (death and all his friends) but after hearing a bit of "Violet Hill" on the tv for an ad for iTunes and becoming hooked, I decided to check out the band's latest album. Much to my surprise I found myself enjoying the album. I think Brian Eno added a much needed oomph to the band. The band's songs have an atmospheric sound that I hadn't heard on previous albums but without losing that familiar Coldplay sound. Chris doesn't sound so whiney as he has in the past which makes the album all the more enjoyable for me. I think the band's strongest, more compelling songs are the first 4-6 songs. The reason for that lies in the infectious pop hooks. I think the melodies in the first half of the album is top notch and the strongest that the band has written in recent years. The only minor flaws with the album is repetition and predictability but overall I still give this album five stars. I just find myself constantly listening to it a few times a day.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - I still like Parachutes than any other Coldplay's album
I like this album. I think compared to the last album, X and Y, this one has much more of Coldplay's original sound to it. Cos I think Coldplay is all about original sound. That's what makes them different than other Brit rock bands. But having said that, this album, nor any of Coldplay's albums after Parachutes, could never beat their very first album, Parachutes itself. I was kinda hoping that Coldplay would go back to something much more like Parachutes. That one was a masterpiece. But I still like Viva La Vida.

And if I would say whether or not it values my money spent, yes, it does.

My favorite song in the album? They're all my favorites, which is a good thing, cos I don't like it when only certain songs are good.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Welcome Deviation
I am surprised by some of the negative reviews this album is getting. All I can say is don't believe them. This is Coldplay's best effort to date and their first really complete album. After what was an okay effort with X&Y, they have taken things in a slightly different direction with great success. The songs from top to bottom are beautiful, melodic and flawlessly produced. For me, highlights include Lovers in Japan, Strawberry Swing, Cemetaries of London, and Lost. But the whole album is great. After In Rainbows last year, and now this, fans of good music have nothing to complain about.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Coldplays 4th and best album
I have never been an avid Coldplay fan, but this album cannot be denied the laurels which it deserves. In an era of music defined by generic punk-pop and ultra-repetitive hip-hop, this album is a breath of much-needed fresh air. Chris Martin and Co. teamed up with Brian Eno to give Coldplay's music a newer sense of urgency and purpose, and the results will surely be admired by the musical community for years to come. Songs such as "Viva La Vida" display an ethereal beauty that not only pleases the listener, but actually draws them into the music. Tales of deposed royalty and clever political commentary help make for an even more interesting listen. Flag-waiving, anthemic music at its best.
