Rating: - Can't wait to mow again
I just bought this mower after our gas powered one died. It was actually a pleasure to mow. It's much lighter than expected after reading other reviews. It's easier to maneuver and lighter than my old mower. I'm an average size female and pushing this around was easy for me.

I love that I can tip it over to clean and not have to worry about gas & oil spills. I also love the easy starting mechanism.

So far the only complaint I can think of is that the battery can't be removed so I could get a spare and keep one charged all the time.

Rating: - B&D CMM 1000 - bought in 2000
I purchased my Black & Decker CMM 1000 back in summer of 2000 and in general it has been a terrific lawn mower. I have over 2/3 of an acre of Kentucky Bluegrass and although it doesn't mow it all on one charge, it mowes it very competently on two charges. Between charges is about 2 hours... just the right amount of time for me to do something else anyways.
Now that I have had it for 8 years I probably need a new battery. So, I take a look in the absolutely incompetently written instruction manual and I can't even see where the battery is located for this thing. There are no drawings of the battery's location and nothing written about changing the battery at all. So, I phone B&D Customer Service. I won't say I got the run-around but I will say that the representative told me how easy it is to change the battery -- it's just like changing a car battery. Duh! I have never changed a car battery. So, they send me the battery ($129)which is almost too heavy to carry and I find someone of the male persuasion who does know how to change a car battery and I con (oops! -- ask) him to come over and change the thing. Of course I don't even know where the damn battery is located. The gentleman figures out where the battery actually is located but then, alas, can't open the case because it requires a trax opener (whaaat is that, anyways?) which customer service neglected to mention and the instruction manual neglected to mention at all. Anyways, when the whole thing is completed I will be happier.
In the meanwhile, besides for this, I must say that this mower is 100 times better than a gas mower although you do have to work at it and since the thing is heavy you had better have a level piece of property. It is relatively quiet and doesn't smell at all. What more could you ask?
And yes, I'd buy another one but reading the reviews of the CMM 1200 I would be wary.

Rating: - Great lawnmower
Lawnmower shipped out fast, item came just as expected. This lawnmower starts up so easy and is quiet for a lawnmower. We love that it has low maintenace and no pollution. I wouldn't recomend this if you have a hilly backyard since this is not self-propelled, it is light compared to a regular lawnmower. Otherwise if your going green and can't stand supporting the oil industry then this item is a must. You will need to replace the battery every 5 years or so. The battery costs $100. You would spend more with oil and maintenace with a gas mower.

Rating: - Great product
I repeat the praise of other reviewers. This is a great product. Incredibly easy to start (pull a lever), quiet (it sounds like a big, quiet weedeater) yet enough power to mow tallish crabgrass. Plenty of charge to mow my small city yard twice on one charge. And none of the hassle with gas cans and draining at year's end, etc. I love it.

Rating: - It gets the job done very well and without nasty gas fumes
If you've been reading the other reviews, I won't waste you time going back over the pros and cons. I'll simply give my perspective on some of the key features. First and foremost, I have a good sized (1/4 acre)lot with about 7,000 square feet of actual grass that's well fertilized and growing like crazy, and I have no problem finishing on a single charge, even with the added stress of pretty thick grass. The mower doesn't bog down any more than a 6.5 HP gas mower in thick grass, and it does mulch better than any other mulching mower I've used. If you're expecting quiet like an electric golf cart, it's not. It's seems louder than you'd expect when you're mowing, but quieter if you're nearby someone else that is (if that makes any sense) and it is fairly heavy (same or slightly heavier than gas). Overall, I love it, and wouldn't go back to gas. We'll see how I do with battery life longer term.
