Software : Mac OS X Version 10.5.4 Leopard

This OS has turned a 100% reliable machine into a piece of junk. After installing my machine has had a problem with not staying in sleep mode. A few minutes after entering sleep mode the fan goes into high gear and it won't respond to anything other than holding down the power switch to turn it off. I have contacted Apple a number of times and it is still not fixed. One of the times they had me reinstall the OS wiping out my account and settings. It was better for a while but the sleep problem has returned. My reccomendation is wait until they really have it working.

The Leopard installation has caused a number of problems with my I-Mac. I was running OS X 5.39 and upgraded to OS X 5.2 ( Leopard ). After running Leopard for a few days, we had a power failure and I had to reboot the machine. One of the applications that was rebooting was Skype, which always opened as part of the reboot. The automatic reboot of Skype disabled the reboot of the operating system and none of my applications would work. Thank heavens for backup! Now my Epson 4180 scanner won't operate. Apple tells me this is an Epson problem. Probably is, but you would think that Apple would write an operating system that would support stuff, not blow you off when you try to get things running. If you are going to install Leopard, backup all your data and expect problems! Good luck>

I like a lot of the updates from the previous OS. I have had some strange bugs that have crept up, hopefully tech support will help work them out.

My PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz has always been a pleasure to work on. Six weeks ago, I installed Leopard. Now, it feels complete.
First, It runs about 20% faster than before. The integration between Mail. iCal, and Address Book is wonderful and feels like it was always intended to work this way. Time machine is foolproof. Leopard is more than an OS upgrade;it truly feels like a NEW MAC.
That said, there is a downside to installing Leopard: forget Classic apps. Leopard is the beginning of pure OS X. But, if you are still using Classic apps on a G4 or later Mac, you need to come into the 21st Century. As a tech writer, I still used Framemaker 7, which was not OS X compatible. After the upgrade, I started evaluating Pages 08 as a publishing tool. It is better, more accurate, and faster than Word, but still falls short of Framemaker. However, given the diversity of formats and delivery media for documentation today (e.g., HTML, PDF) and Mac OS X's compatibility with those media, iWork 08 will more than suffice as a publishing toolkit.
If you have a Mac and aren't running Leopard, you're missing the link to the complete MAc experince!
