Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - THANKS!
I saw an issue of this magazine at the Louisville Science Museum yesterday when Isaiah, who is six, and I spent a rainy day exploring science and inventions. I don't remember what topic the issue covered, but the magazine's focus on science interested Isaiah so I thought about getting him a subscription for Christmas. Of course, as soon as I came home, I went immediately to Amazon's site to hear what other parents thought about it. I was shocked at the number of one-star reviews and clicked on that link in order to see what the problem was. I now know about the heavy-handed collection tactics and apparently deceptive subscription techniques. I have NO interest in becoming ensnared in anything like that. I also appreciated the info about out-of-date information, recycling old issues, and "thin" issues for a steep price. Accordingly, I am writing to thank all of you who took the time out from busy lives to share this information with potential subscribers. And thanks, too, to Amazon for letting us do it. Hello National Geographic for Kids and Ranger Rick.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - terrific magazine that isn't just "sound bytes"
My six year old son really gets into Kids Discover. He gets excited over the arrival of the magazine and he instantly becomes interested in the subject of that issue. We pore through every article, and we both really do learn something substantial about the subject of the issue. The photographs are stunning, and a wealth of enlightening and interesting information is included. Yes, the magazine is "thin" in terms of pages, but it also isn't full of the advertising and other "junk" filler that one sees in National Geographic Kids (that magazine is a huge disappointment, one that we will not be reordering for next year). We will continue to order Kids Discover also because it goes in-depth into a single topic at a time, doesn't bounce from one little bit of info on a subject to another...so much of what our kids get in terms of inputs are short little bits and bytes -- in school, on TV, and even in kids magazines. There is this assumption out there that children only have a very short attention span, but I beg to differ...give them interesting content that goes in depth, and see how well and long you can hold their attention! So, really, thumbs up for Kids Discover.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great information, tiny magazine
My son just received his second issue. This magazine is jam packed full of information and my son is just glued to the issues he's received, but the magazine itself is only a few pages. I would be happier if there were more pages and bigger type and pictures. It would appeal more to younger kids too if they did this. I am also scared after reading the other reviews that if I don't renew I will be inundated with collection notices. This seems to be happening to a lot of people so I hope they get the problem taken care of. The magazine is very educational and interesting; they don't need to scam people in order to sell copies.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Kids Discover is GREAT!
This magazine is fantastic! Each topic is addressed with facts, photos and illustrations that introduce and intrigue readers of every age. Common facts are balanced with uncommonly known bits of trivia and cute animated characters that grab attention and get readers to ask more questions. I use it with my children and grandchildren (we learned about volcanos and made some last week), and as stimulus topics for training interpreters and educators of the deaf. The issue about the Great Wall of China arrived just before the Olympics this year, so we had some background information before watching. One of my favorites is the one about the Brain. Each edition is fascinating of itself, and gives enough teasers to lead readers to want to learn even more.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Declining Quality of a Once Great Magazine
Recently KIDS DISCOVER has been "repeating" issues -- that is simply reprinting ENTIRE issues it has previously published -- this wouldn't be so bad I guess but they are not even updating the content.. the result is that they are printing old information that is more than just out of date and it's just plain wrong... I guess they are doing it to save money but they've lost my family's trust..
