I used to own this book! It was so cool! I liked Professor Oak's intro. I also liked the little chracter discriptions! This book gives a lot of info on the first 150 Pokemon...good times. Anyway, this book is great for Pokemon fans like me!

This is the perfect gift for any young Pokemon fan. The book describes the background and concept of the Pokemon battle, and it presents descriptions of 150 characters. The language is simple and clear. It is the ideal reference book for children (or, perhaps even more so, for clueless parents trying to figure out what is SO obvious, Mom! to anyone under 10). Also, from an educational point of view, the pictures will help build memory. A great gift.

If you enjoy playing Pok'emon: Red Version, Pok'emon: Blue Version, and/or Pok'emon: Yellow Version, you will find this handbook quite useful. It not only lists information about the Pok'emon you'll be catching and training, and information abut the gym leaders you'll be facing, but includes a checklist to keep track of which Pok'emon you've captured. Information about Pok'emon includes attacks that they can learn, what to do to get them to evolve, what element they are, what elements they're strong against, and what elements they're weak against. The rest of the information, if I remember correctly, such as height, weight, and the little paragraphs telling about the Pok'emon are kind of useless, but still fun to read if you're bored and the book just happens to be laying nearby.
Overall, I'd say this book isn't that useful anymore, considering the fact that everyone has already moved on to more updated versions of the Pok'emon game. This book could possibly be helpful to those with Pok'emon: Leaf Green or Pok'emon: Fire Red versions, though I believe there's already a more accurate guide to them.
But if you prefer the older, easier Pok'emon games (like myself), and need more information on what to do and what to expect, I recommend this to you. It will not only cover a decent amount of information, but because of its age it could possibly be found at a low price.

this handbook was help full to me on my red version.it tells how: they evolve ,when they evolve,all the pokemons moves,how to pronounce the name of the pokemon,what element it is,and then it gives a page of data diskriving the pokemon.it does this from bulbasuar to mew.then it gives all the data they know for togepi.this book does not have all 386 pokemon becuase whenit was written there was only 151 pokemon.
