The amount of food this holds is perfect for an 8 hour day at the office. The bottom two containers do keep things warm for several hours, but the items that you put in should be hot, right out of the microwave, stove, etc. You can figure the cold stuff staying cool and the hot stuff staying warm for 3 to 4 hours. The top two are best suited for items that won't go bad quickly, i.e, crackers, cheese, dry cereal. ... I find that you can put extra things in the space when you do not use the soup bowl.
