| Classic really is the word, this and Catch 22 are for me the pinnacle of futility-of-war films.
In a time (read with deep gravelly voice) when all war films seem to be getting more and more jingoistic, and history is being rewritten by Hollywood, it's worth looking back to see how affecting an unbiased version can be. Of course in any film you follow the story of the 'good guys', but when dealing with actual events, some sort of balance is needed, Stone got it right with Platoon. Read More: |

| A very sharply written and well acted movie having a real go at the excessive practices of some financial market traders in the boomtime 1980s, which as we know now, despite severe legislation, still go on. Benefited from being made right smack in the middle of it. Douglas has a wail of a time as the megabucks megelamaniac who causes chaos with his amoral and ruthless buying practices. | I'd almost given up on finding this, I remember Oliver Stone mentioning he was working on this but then heard little else, I should have known it wasn't a priority release and arrived only on R1 very low key. Though I tracked it down on Amazon recently for very reasonable price. Any chance to see more of this superb piece of the cinema is a chance I'm not gonna miss.
JFK remains probably my favourite film of all time and Nixon is it's companion piece. Watching it again I think the gap between the 2 films has got smaller, ... Read More: |

| Absolutely stunning on blu-ray, although 90% of the film is with the port officers trapped under the rubble, the brief part at the start of the film with the surround sound and pristine picture quality is well...amazing. |

| What do you get if you mix together a cliched idea, a mismatched cast and a poor director? Unfortunately the result is Natural Born Killers, an awkward blip in cinema history. Unashamedly ripping off the classic story of Bonnie and Clyde the film follows the rise and fall of the "charasmatic" serial killers awkwardly portrayed by failed popstar Juliette Lewis and "star" of cheers Woody Harrelson. | From start to finish this is an engrossing documentary. Anybody who is interested in the topics of communism, Cuba, or just American Imperialism owes it to themselves to watch this documentary.
I watched this last night with my family and it received thumbs up all round. While in itself that is not too much of a big deal but if you understand the demographics from which my family is drawn it is more impressive. | The dvd's extras are as god as the film with commentary from survivors of the towers. Some acting from the supporting cast was, i thought, a bit suspect, until i found out that some were survivors of the 9/11 event and had never acted before. their appearance in the film was meant as a tribute to their fallen collegues. Even those who have a short attention span will appreciate Cage's acting and the gritty powerful effects that have been made closely factual. A must have for any Cage fan. |
