One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, and perhaps one of the few that manages to live up to hype about it (unlike say, Citizen Kane)...
The plot is relatively simple, but it's the way it is carried out and how each character in the plot has something weirdly funny about him that makes it such a good movie. Almost every character in the story has some sort of eccentricity, from the paranoid Jack Ripper, to the crazy skeptical Buck Turgidson and all of Peter Sellers characters. The ... Read More:

5stars for this film in every aspect. The feel, the story, the characters, the music , the sets, everything. Redford and Newman are awesome as they try and pull off the big con. Two of the biggest names in Hollywood and they make great acting look effortless. Their on screen chemistry is fantastic.

Robert Shaw is superb as the vicious crime lord who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. His subtle hints as to what will happen if his 'customers' don't obey his word are legend, do you follow!

Director John McTiernan gives us yet another techno thriller: THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. Sean Connery (whose Russian is too Scottish) plays Captain Marko Ramius, a much decorated Russian commander who navigates his submarine towards America in an attempt to defect. Soviet intelligence tells the Americans that Ramius went mad and plans to launch nuclear missiles at the United States. Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin in his major film acting debut), a brainy CIA analyst, believes otherwise: American spies have determined that the submarine ... Read More:

i've heard nothing but great things about this so i got a copy of the 2 disc version and sat down expecting to be entertained disney style!!!
what a load of rubbish, first of all james earl jones has and always will be (unfortunetly for him) darth vader and i was just waiting for him to say to simba "i am your father" but its the story and the songs thats the biggest problem.the story has been seen 100 times before(i won't spoil it just in case you want to see the film) and for me just didn't work, the songs written by elton ... compared to the recent BBC series.
No Merlin, and Arthur the same age,Guinevere as a black servant girl,or Nimue as an evil witch!
This 1998 version, recently shown on Channel 5,reeks of class,an intelligent script, first class acting from all the cast, and, given their age, pretty impressive special effects.
For me,Miranda Richardson,as Queen Mab,is alone worth the price of entrance.
This is a superb production which will bear repeated viewings.

...not that NORBIT rubbish!
- Golden Child? Great
- Dr Doolittle(s)? No probs
- Daddy Day Care? Good
- 48 Hours and BHills Cop aren't my cup-of-tea but are classic Murphy.
- COMING TO AMERICA is the best!
- NORBIT is far and away the closest to 'Donkey' that Eddie Murphy has come to (and that says something considering he voiced 'Donkey' in the Shrek films which were great!)
If you like Eddie Murphy, watch Coming To America again - do not watch Norbit! And if you're reading this after watching Murphy ... Read More:

Who better to play down-to-earth hero Jack Ryan than the-guy-next-door? Harrison Ford does Tom Clancy's character complete justice. With his crooked smile, and as ever fantastic acting, Patriot Games is a sheer pleasure to watch.

More often than not, movies do not do justice to the books. This however is not the case here. Of course a movie cannot possibly include all the little details that a book can, but even those who never read Clancy's books would enjoy this movie. Good dose of action and drama...couple of hours perfect entertainment! ... Read More:

This box set is for martial arts and action fans only.
Don't expect superb oscar winning acting because these movies don't fit into that kind of genre.

The 1st best of the best is completely different from the others. The 1st one focuses on an american team competing against a Korean team in a full contact karate bout.

The other movies have their own story lines but are more action typed than the first was. Best of the Best 2 I thought was ok. It's the 3rd and 4th ones which are worth seeing.

The price amazon are selling is ... Read More:

...although I loaned the film to a colleague at work who could not see the point of the film. I kinda thought that was partly the essence of it.

I've since read the book too and have to say that I prefer the film although the novel is very well written but there are a few differences between the two.

Well acted, well shot and it is the stuff of dreams. If you can't see the point you won't see the game...
