1) Inspector Frost has reached an age where being a police officer is quite unrealistic, the same accounts for some of his "partners in crime" 2) The story lines have become quite predictable. 3) All witty dialogues have been done over the years, at least once. Everything has been said between Frost and his colleagues/superior. | John Boorman's 1981 film is an exercise in how to treat fantasy in an adult and serious manner.
The fantasy elements are subtle - there are no stop motion monsters to be found here - and yet still pervade the movie with a sense of the magical & arcane. | Like other reviewers I was glad this came out on DVD (I also have the video tape version). One reviewer sated that it was not like the book, which is partially true. However, it does reflect the times and the circumstances of that rebellion at Entaples (which is still shrouded in mystery). The programme itself is brilliantly acted and the story entertaining and credible. I think it captures the period during and just after the First World War. | This is an awful adaptation. It bastardizes the essence of Shelley's novel. While the novel nurtures a moral dilemma at its heart, this destroys it. (This cannot be demonstrated better than when the monster rips out Elizabeth's heart, serving as an apt metaphor for the film ripping out the heart of the text). The sympathy for the monster which Shelley really draws on is completely undercut in the film by the monster's portrayal as a cold blooded murderer wanting an unjustified amount of revenge...it ignores the ... | I hadnt seen this film in twenty years but my memories of it were fond ones. As I recall this came out around the same time as the Killing Fields and I really thought us Brits would continue to make films of that scale and quality. Like all classics it has its minor flaws. Notably the peculiar casting of Robert De Niro, whilst his performance is good there's something about it that just doesn't sit right with me. | The second season of Hotel Babylon is as good as the first one. Great acting and a spescial twist to the filming makes this show stand out from the crowd.
The episodes in this is even more action paced than the first series, but still very entertaining and convincing. I espescially love how thw actors work together and their little secrets in a world of money, sex and secrets. |

| I do not aggree that Hugh Grant would have been any better. However, I do think that Richard E Grant could have loosened up a wee bit and the scene at the pre natal appiontment would have been better if it had been left on the cutting room floor! I do wonder, though, how Cary Grant would have done it. |

However it shows the mixtures of well scripted, and exciting portrayals of Dicken's now famous characters, with some very awful or dull presentations. Great Expectations and Our Mutual Friend both vere on the side of being two modern bbc dramas having the ability to put even the strongest of fans into a coma.
