Like the title of my review says: Superb!

When I first started the film (DVD Region 2) the screen showed black bars at the sides (as well as at top and bottom) and the ball on Maleficent's stick was not circular. I fixed this by changing the setting of my DVD player from 16:9 Fix to 16:9 Auto. That made the picture perfect. For those who have the same problem doing the same may fix it. I have found that some wide screen DVDs need the DVD player to be set at 16:9 Auto while others need ... Read More:

What is so exquisite about Sleeping Beauty is that it looks like a medieval tapestry coming to life. If you look closely at the details in the backgrounds you can see little twists in the leaves and curves in the tree bark which overall gives an ornate and opulent look still refreshing to this day. It was the most expensive film in it's day, it took over four years to make and Walt Disney stated to his artists and animators that they should take their time over it, make it beautiful and so it came as a shock when it didn't ... Regardless of the hidden (or even obvious) peversion of James Mason's character, I felt this film was brilliantly acted and beautifully shot. Sue Lyon's portrayal of the teenage Lolita is spot on, whilst Shelley Wintar's manical and irritating mother role is painfully real. Peter Sellar's does his usual good job of injecting a little humour into the otherwise unpleasant storyline and of course James Mason is as always perfect in his role. Whether it is an insult to say he is perfect for the part I do not know, but he certainly ... Read More:

DVD : Steel Magnolias [1990]
I have watched this film many, many times over the years and it's still as great as the first time I watched it. A superstar cast brings with it quality acting and a superb script. Don't think I've ever watched it without crying, so if you're a Steel Magnolias virgin, or coming back to it for a repeat viewing - be sure to have the tissues at the ready....
It also has one of my all-time favourite quotes, which is something I live by...
"I'd rather have one moment of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special" - simply beautiful! ... Read More:

The next time you're in your hospital bed and two nurses walk in with a long-stemmed daffodil, do not under any circumstance roll over on your stomach.

Carry On Nurse was the second in the Carry On stream of British comedies that began with Carry On Sergeant and lasted for nearly 20 years. You'll either love 'em or you'll hate 'em. You'll love Carry On Nurse, or at least feel a warm, gentle glow of nostalgia break out over you like a rash, if naughty humor based on bedpans, buxom nurses, buttock massages and bunions make you smile. Actually, it's a sea-lion. Seals have much smaller front flippers and no external ear flaps.
Good film for the kids though.

An entertaining film with an excellent cast. Blackmailer Dennis Price (a wonderful performance) targets a number of celebrities including Peter Sellers, Peggy Mount and Terry-Thomas (playing a rather dishonest Lord) who all have something to hide - Price threatens to reveal all in a scandal magazine he produces called "The Naked Truth". The celebrities decide to take steps...with hilarious results!

The War Lover is a mostly botched but still watchable watering down of John Hersey's novel about a sociopathic bomber pilot (Steve McQueen, playing an airborne variation of his psychotic soldier from Hell is For Heroes). Unfortunately the film is less interested in the thin line between heroism and psychopathic behavior than Robert Wagner's romance with Shirley Ann Field (in a performance so bad that at times her vocal delivery is so far off-target it's like nails on a blackboard), leaving the feeling that the real story has been sidelined for much of the film. ... DVD : Sleeping Beauty [Disney 1959]
This is my favourite Disney movie. The backgrounds are detailed and stylised like a series of medieval tapestries. The intergration of the characters in what look like the best sets ever designed for a semi-swashbuckling musical/comedy/thriller is stunning.
I still get frightened when the fire goes out and Maleficent appears to tempt Aurora through the back of the fireplace (Maleficent being a truly evil villainess). The score is superbly used in these scenes. Brilliant stuff.

Three very enjoyable comedies, unfortunately let down by very poor mastering. During dimly-lit scenes, the picture dissolves into a blur at the slightest provocation. This is especially annoying during the night scenes of THE NAKED TRUTH where forests melt every time the camera moves, and Dennis Price can sport two faces at once if he turns his head too fast. Very regrettable shoddiness, which mars three otherwise fine comedies.
