Ignore the "On the DVD" part of the amazon review, as the version on this DVD is what you would see on a regular TV broadcast, i.e. the ends of the original widescreen shape have been cropped off to make the image 1.33:1 proportions. Only the opening credits (the vintage car race scenes) have the original letterboxed widescreen retained. Other than that it is fine, especially at the current bargain price, but if you want to see the images framed the way they were intended by the film's director then ... Read More:

Michael Caine stars as Charlie Croaker, a newly realised prisoner, who sets about putting into motion a plan to steal a fortune, $4,000,000, in gold bars from the Italians. Until certain events come to pass, he is unable to set the plan into motion. He sneaks into the prison, where he interrupts Mr Bridger's nightly toilet break. Once undue reparations have come to pass onto the unfortunate Charlie Croaker, Mr Bridger finds an interest in the scheme. Once he, Croaker, has selected the team, and carried out ... Read More:

The dvd boxset is great and for the price is worth it! The first film is excellent and is played out well by the actors and actresses! It is a fun film with the Classic best british car to date, the Mini! Shame that the sequal to it was never produced, but the re make of the film I thought was just average and the story line could've been made better. I thought the car scenes could've been longer and the ending a little better, but still, it was decent enough to watch!

Tommy Steele not singing, Benny Hill not joking (much) - but they and the rest of the cast put in engaging character study performances. I would think serving on the coastal defences was much like this in 1942. I found this a very pleasant trip down my father's memory lane. (Dad was on the Bofor guns.) Leather boots in the English countryside. Interesting story lines keep it running, some pathos, always lighthearted.

I looked for DVDs with Benny Hill shows some years ago, but found only a few, randomly assembled. And mostly sone1 recordings. Then I happened to look again some weeks ago, and found the whole shebang he did for Thames Television had been published in the meantime. Nicely sequenced. O' Joy.

The first DVD in the series is the 1970 season. I wondered what had become of his 1969 material - untill i got the 1974 DVD in hand:

The 1974 DVD also contains the two TV shows he did for Thames in 1969! These DVDs have ... Read More:

This isn't as good value as some of the American Benny Hill DVD sets, but it's still got a lot of slapstick silliness and Benny's usual sauce. Great fun from a sadly neglected talent. Good stuff.

Benny Hill was a talented and funny man. His brand of humour was of the naughty-schoolboy, saucy-postcard variety. His shows ( for which he provided the material ) were made up of a number of comedy sketches including humorous songs and poems with the accent on sex.
He liked to dress up and get in character, and his clever use of words provided the innuendo, double-meanings and misunderstandings which were the main ingredients of his sketches.
Not all his material hit the mark, but his shows were generally funny and entertaining, ... Read More:
