The "true" story of Nessie, the Loch Ness' monster, in a mix of comedy and tragedy. The "pet" of a war orphan in some days growth to the size of most popular "monster" of our's times. The story of friendship between the child ad the "beast" on the background of WWII, with good special effects, some good action scenes and a good ending (with a "promise" for a sequel ??). A movie only for kids and parents ? Not in my opinion.

"Remains of the Day" will be regarded as one of the great film masterpieces of the Merchant-Ivory team, now tragically ended with the untimely death, earlier this year, of Ismail Merchant from cancer. Their films were the quintessential cinematic epics respectful of both the settings and characters adapted from both period and contemporary novels, blessed frequently with elegant scripts from their literary partner Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, and of course superb acting from their casts. "Remains of the ... Read More:

I don't normally bother to write reviews, but in this case I felt I had to. I have to say previous reviews made it look like this was something worth watching, some even contained comments like "well written". In reality this is not an adult comedy, it will only appeal to someone who is 13 or has a mental age of that or less. Poorly written, improbable characters mixed up with punch lines that are so obvious (and unfunny) it makes you want switch off and stop having your intelligence Insulted. I have to admit I didn't ... War films come in all shapes and sizes and its obvious from the reviews here that this one doesn't come under the one size fits all category.

I really don't get a lot of the negative comments. Its as if people want to pigeon hole this with any other generic war film. But its not and its not meant to be. Its not as deep or expansive as the book but hey look! Its a film. Its got to get the emotion and stories across in about 3hrs and you can't do that to the same degree as a book.

And I wonder if the ... Read More:

This is a beautiful film, very understated but the resonance stays with one for a long time. Emotionally gripping, superbly acted, it has two strands of storyline with no apparent connection between a lawyer (Damian Lewis) with a high-powered city firm and a call girl (Penelope Cruz) dying of cancer, and their various friends and relations. At the opposite ends of the social spectrum, they are equally vulnerable and the ending for both of them is unbearably poignant. The symbolic high point is a deer shoot in Scotland at which point ... If your'e looking to unwind and have a romantic bone in your body you'll love this film. There are no belly laughs, but I guarantee you will smile from begining to end. You may even blush as well.

Personally as a man, I dind't find Uma Thurman remotely drop-dead gorgeous which is assumed throughout. But I'm probably in the minority and her performance is immaculate. Everything else about the film is pretty much perfect. Light entertainment at its best.

This film has good sets, decent actors and a basis for a good story. However the lack of direction is evident from the outset. It wanders aimlessly along in a most tedious and frustrating manner. And I ended up with the feeling that the talents of Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen were completely wasted. Kristinna Loken of course looks great without having to try. But this is not enough of a distraction to save an otherwise dire effort. Not one I'd recommend.

'Adapted Eye' is the best of the Vine novels, a modern Greek tragedy that explores the sheer hatred that is unleashed when two hitherto devoted sisters fall out over a child that both want. The excellent TV adaptation captures the range of emotion, helped by the casting of Sophie Ward as the glacial Eden (the name conveys her perfection) and Celia Imrie's homely but manipulating Vera. Acting as narrator, Faith (Bonham Carter) has an important role of her own, her life blighted by guilt and the suspicion that Vera's madness might be hereditary. ... Read More:
