| As you can tell from the other people's reviews this movie is brilliant!! But what is not said (at least I don't think so! I didd'nt read all 100+ reviews!) is the picture quality! i'm using a Toshiba 47" 1080i LCD HDTV with a PlayStation3 with HDMI connection. For a DVD it's got AMAZING detail! I'm surprised they managed to fit this 3 hour film with this quality onto a DVD!! I have a collection of around 500 DVDs & this must be in the top 5 of best picture quality in my selection! | This is really good value for money as a double pack. Both films are worth watching in their own right.
The American view film "Flags of Our Fathers" does have some really good action in it aka "Saving Private Ryan" - just as you'd expect these days. The thing I didn't like was the continuous back-and-throwing from the future look at how these "heroes" got on with regard the famous picture of the soldiers planting the flag, back to the action and then back again. | When I first saw this film I was shocked by just how gruesome the opening beach scene is. It made me want to watch the rest of the film with intent. I think the film itself is just a plain and simple blood bath 'horror' movie, which is what war is about, plain and simple. I've read other reviews saying the film has no plot but I don't think this degrades the film because if you want a big anti-war film, look no further. Not many other films I have seen make me less want to go to war.

Tony Scott is a very seductive director. He presses all the right visual buttons. This man virtually patented the orange-filtered Simpson-Bruckheimer sky. To some, this makes him Ridley's flashy, shallow brother. But when Scott's camera happens upon a decent story and some really fine performers, as with Crimson Tide, the effect is like having your inside leg stroked in the dark for two hours. | In my opinion, this is the best war movie ever. It has a gritty realism that will bring you as close to the battlefield as you would ever want to be and yet it is laced with powerful human stories that you will remember for years to come. No other war film I have ever watched has evoked the emotions that this film has produced in me.

I've seen this film many times now, hence why I chose it as my first test of Hi-Def. Picture was good, but the film was fantastic! Great plot, well executed. Good acting from Will Smith and the legend that is Gene Hackman. I love a good conspiracy movie. Rent this movie. It's well worth it! |
