| This film is completely crass and completely predictable. Dreadful script and even worse acting.
I actually had to turn it off halfway through. Just glad I didn't buy it! |

| I'm ashamed to admit that I was wooed by the pretty but in fact rather idealistic image of Keira Knightley on the DVD cover as it finally turned out. Yes, she is a lovely looker but the character she plays retains a certain coolness throughout the film, in such contrast to her ethnically different but even more beautiful and endearing co-star. East Is East is nothing less than a masterpiece! This film is appealing to so many people for so many different reasons. | The film tries to tell the story of Daniel Pearl, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal who gets kidnapped and murdered by extremists. Unfortunatley it fails to delivery on an emotional level. Angelina Joline is superb, probably her best role ever but unfortunately the rest of the story telling is just so weak. | I'd been after this film for some time, and was pleased to be able to pick it up cheaply at the supermarket earlier this week. I was somewhat surprised when my mother (not, as far as I know, a fan of the cross-cultural sporting coming-of-age genre) said that she wanted to watch it last night. It turns out that someone had told her that it had been made around where we grew up in West London (Hayes, Southall, Hounslow, Heathrow - how those names mix memory and desire). | Although there are only two episodes of Postman Pat on this DVD, it is still relatively good value as both episodes are feature-length, about 25 minutes each. I think both these episodes are fantastic, my two-year-old absolutely loves them. One of the episodes is a Christmasy theme, which makes you wonder if Santa does exist after all. The other is about the Greendale Rocket, the restored steam train when it first gets introduced into the series, along with the obligatory ethnic family who have since become regular characters of the TV show.
