I just want to provide a bit of information that is missing from the product listing, which is of great interest to many people. That is, has the transfer of the Theatrical Editions been improved over the insult that was released last time? And the answer is a plain and simple "no". The Special Edition is the same fantastic transfer as we've had before (albeit with the same bizarre discolouration problems) and the Original Theatrical Editions are still not anamorphic. Why? Well, we all have our suspicions ... Read More:

We watch four middle aged men enter a down-at-heal office. They take seats around a table. Thay say nothing. One at the end coughs and asks "Shall we begin?" One to the side huffs audibly and then the opening credits rolls.

How brave a start is that? Who would start a major TV serial like that these days? Ive seen "Tinker Tailor..." five times now and look forward to watching it a again. If there was a fire and I could run to save just one DVD this would be the one.

If that was a film of duty and bravery, the only characters who meet both demands, were British commandos of 316. All other lines seem to be unrealistic. The facility that was depicted in the movie, is not a forced labor, but rather a holiday camp. Japanese staff had all possibilities to force POWs do whatever work, but Japs don't even tried, simply observing sabotage and malingering. British officers surrender, carry conference with the enemy, build the bridge for the enemy and even celebrate on this occasion. There ... Read More:

I watched this when first broadcast in 1982 and was utterly hooked - it was one of those programmes that was compulsory viewing and much discussed at work the following day. (although I remember Clive James, in his TV reviewer guise at the time, was a bit rude about the fact that it could make a heroine out of Connie, queen of the files.... well, you can't please everybody).

Anyway, the years went by, and then a couple of years ago I accidentally stumbled across this again as it was being repeated on BBC4 or some such ghetto ... Read More:

lawrence of arabia is a successful work but as a Turkish citizen i find this movie too political and too one-sided.so i watch this movie as an epic and i enjoy it.certainly, i do not see the events in this film as facts but as fiction.this is a film that has no historical value but it is a fine film to watch.

Age cannot wither it, nor custom stale its infinite variety. All human (or at least Russian) life is here in a stupendous, rich DVD transfer - spotless and detailed. You get everything, too - they've put in the overture and entr'acte title cards and music so you can have an intermission just as they used to in the cinema. The film is huge and you can really lose yourself in it. Yes, a lot of the book had to be cut. Yes, Omar Sharif never quite fits the role and yes, "Lara's Theme" can grate after a while - but against that you have Julie Christie at ... Read More:

This review is based on watching the "original theatrical version" (1977) which is on the Bonus Disc in this 2 Disc DVD.

There is stellar charm from C3PO, R2D2, Princess Leia, Skywalker, and Hans Solo. The pace of the film is also very good. The audience follows the story much through the eyes of narrators C3PO and R2D2. That, ladies and gentleman, is why this film is pretty innovative.

Star Wars doesn't really become truly galactic until Empire Strikes Back.

I heard quite a bit about the book, so started reading it. Never really got into it so decided to rent the film out (as you do)...although i have to say, i really was disappointed.

I thought the story was mediocre, the start and middle was quite good, it was like a big build up to something. Something like an unexpected twist; although i waited and waited..then it was over.

I was left thinking, is that it??

The film in itself was quite good, but the DVD itself is very disappointing: it has no subtitles at all.

In this day and age there is no excuse for a film to come out on DVD without any subtitles. The dialogue in this film is wonderfully beautiful, and it is a real shame not to share this in the form of sub-titles. English is not my native tongue, and I would've really appreciate it.

No are no extras on the DVD either, just the film. This is basically a VHS cassette in DVD format.

What a glorious little film. A comic masterpiece, what more can I say. Its guaranteed to put a warm smile on your face after the most miserable of days. I have seen it countless times and its always fresh and funny. And by the way, Peter Sellers provided the voice of the parrot. At one stage he actually squawks 'Alec Guinness!"
