| I love this book because of its fabulous yet simplistic illustrations. But what I love more is the fantastic poems that describe different aspects of the seaside from mermaids to sand! Reading this book just makes me want to go to the beach and experience sand in between my toes! This book is fun and beautifully presented and the poems simple but effective. |

| Everyone knows the original stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf and The Three Little Pigs, written by Charles Perrault (Cinderella), Brothers Grimm (all the rest); but Roald Dahl has changed the stories and put in some gruesome humour - these rewrites are not suitable for grumpy old grown ups so be aware! | I have always loved these poems. Elliot really managed to capture the personality of different cats in his different poems, which will sparkle out to anyone who has ever loved or owned a cat, a little bit of the Rum Tug Tugger here, a bit of Bustopher Jones there... cats to a tee, and wonderful fun! Buy a copy with Edward Gorey's fantastic illustrations, they really bring the poems to life. | I purchased this whilst studying Heaney as an undergraduate and thought it extremely poor and sold it on quite quickly. If you are serious about your studies there are more interesting and better written critical analyses out there such as those by Tobin, Hart and O'Brien. |

| When I had to write an English Anthology for university I decided to give this one a go. The book is jam packed with good poems. My class 4's loved the one about the head teacher so much that we did a lesson on changing a poem into a story - using the characters perspectives. All good fun! |

| I have been made to read this book every night for the last month, my 2 year old daughter absolutley loves it. Even after reading it so many times she still manages to find new and interesting things within the illustrations all the time. Now I just have to find some more books that step up to the mark. |
