| Too many collections of poetry for children are rather patronizing and rather limited in their scope. My experience is that kids don't just want comic poems and/or poems about bodily functions or slugs. They really don't. Ted Hughes never wrote down to children and was passionate in encouraging poets of all ages. | This book of poems is great fun to read for adults and kids alike. My four year old is daft for dinosaurs and simply couldn't get enough but as parents we didn't tire reading it. The poems are not just silly rhymes either, (though there are some), they are challenging too. James and the Dinosaur is stimulating on a whole range of levels for instance. | Steve Turner manages to capture an excellent sense of humour which children love. I've used this in my class with 8 year olds and they love it. There are also some poems which make brief references to God, but still in a fun way. |
