| This is a wonderful story that my daughter has loved since she was very young. At first she just enjoyed listening to the story but she is now progressing to spotting and naming different parts of the pictures (duck, baby, etc). And I know we've got plenty more life in this book as she starts to spot the different characters. | This book does exactly what it says, providing all the poetry you will need for literacy and more. I use it for most of my poetry ideas as it lists all the genres and provides good variety.
Only bought this a few weeks ago but already well loved and written on to remind me which poems to use for certain word and sentence level work as well as particular genres. | The intricacy, layout and artistry of this book is amazing. My children (5 and 2) absolutely love it although they do need to be reminded to be careful of the popups but so far it's survived many readings and curious fingers. Absolutely recommended, especially as a gift. |

| I also was given this book aged 7 in 1979. It has been read so much that I had my original copy rebound in hardback 10 years ago.
It has a fantastic range of poems which are grouped into different age groups for easy navigation. Accompanying each poem are the child's reasons why they chose to it to be included within the book. | I don't dislike this collection but for anyone looking for an accessible book of poetry for kids, I think there are better buys. The range of topics and style is impressive, however.
I don't find that the text scans particuarly well in many of the poems and the interviews with the poets are illuminating but add little to the enjoyment of the poetry. I find that small children, in particular, enjoy more rhythmic prose than is found in this collection. |

| We got the board book version of this book out of the library for our nearly two year old, and she loves it! The illustrations are fun and colourful, and the story is simple with easy rhymes and repetition. A perfect book to read aloud at the end of the day. |
