Superb. The story translates VERY well, and the guile and craft is maintained expertly.

Read it, whether you've read the original book or not.

I read graphic novels and this one stand out as a great one, good story and, for once, fine art, not any sketchy rubbish!

I got this book for my son, as he had another one in the series and liked it. He likes a good tale of battle and manliness (for want of a better word!) and this delivered in spades. What struck me though, was that the story, all told from a Viking boy's perspective, was surprisingly emotionally complex. I picked it up to flick through it and ended up reading the whole lot.

It was really tender in places and subtley managed to say that fighting is not necessarily or always a great thing, which ... Read More:

Books : Weird Creatures Encyclopedia (Collins Voyager)
I bought this book after my two boys had demanded it having read and loved the Alien Encyclopedia by the same author. This is a classic - if you want your kids to get to know about the weird and wonderful stuff of legends and folklore as well as monsters and weird creatures from films, TV, and novels - then this is for you!

The writing is witty and great fun. The illustrations are excellent. The research for this must have taken ages! There's a great quiz at the end which the boys took great delight in beating ... Read More:

Roald Dahl has been an evergreen favourite with nearly every class I have ever taught. This book is an exciting look at his life and works. In the Scholastic series 'Dead Famous', this book tells Dahl's story through text, diary entries, letters, postcards home, and cartoons. Andrew Donkin's writing is funny, easy to read, and manages to make Dahl's life story utterly compelling. It fills a much needed gap in the market - up until this issue there had been (as far as a know) no longer (this is 35,000 words) biography of Dahl ... Read More:

This is a well researched and very funny book. It covered all the aliens from TV, film, and real life UFO reports that I could think of. (And quite a few I couldn't!)
I bought it for my teenage son's visit at the w/e but ended up reading it myself. Great fun.
